For contractors and renovators
Basement-unit builds, bathroom gut jobs and fit-outs all need glass near the end, when a late trade holds up inspection or handover. We are a free referral service, not a glazing company or a City program. Send us the scope and your dates, and we pass them to an independent local glass pro who does that kind of work: egress windows, shower glass, mirrors, railings or door glass.
- Scopes and drawings welcome
- Work sequenced to your inspections
- One request for several trades' glass

Basement units
Basement-unit projects: egress windows and openings permits
On a two-unit dwelling, the City's registration drawings show which egress option applies and where the egress and exit windows go. The City's two-unit process sets out current requirements. A new or enlarged basement window opening also needs a building permit under the openings permit package.
The glass pro supplies and fits the window. Share the drawing sheet that shows the egress and exit windows, so the window is sized to what was approved. Our basement egress window page covers the homeowner side.
Permit paperwork
What the openings package asks for
The City's package for new or enlarged openings asks for:
A survey
Showing the house on the lot, so the City can see where the opening sits.
Elevations
Drawings of the wall with the new or enlarged opening marked.
Lintel details
How the opening is supported above. This comes from whoever prepares your drawings.
Bathrooms
Bathrooms: shower glass after tile, mirrors
Shower glass
Measured after tile, since the finished walls decide the size. Shower and tub enclosures need safety glass under the Ontario Building Code. See custom shower enclosures.
Mirrors
Vanity and wall mirrors cut to the finished wall, with openings for outlets or lighting. See mirrors.
Stairs and interiors
Railings and interior glass
Glass in guards has to be laminated or tempered safety glass, and guard heights follow the code, so railing work is quoted from your drawings and site measurements. The 2024 Ontario Building Code applies to permit applications now, so check wording against that edition. See glass railings. Interior partitions and door glass follow the same measure-then-order sequence.
Pricing
Sending a job for pricing
Send drawings or a written scope. The quote depends on:
- Number, size and type of windows or glass pieces
- Whether a foundation opening is new or enlarged
- Shower, mirror or railing hardware and glass type
- Access, site readiness and your inspection dates
Ask for a written, itemized quote with the scope, completion date and warranty spelled out.
Condos
Condo and townhouse jobs: permission to construct
Where permit work touches a registered condo's common elements, the City asks for a Notice of Permission to Construct signed by the condominium corporation, as set out in the openings package. Get it before glass is ordered.
Occupied homes
Occupied-home jobs: tenants and dust control
Many basement-unit projects happen with a family upstairs or a tenant next door. Tell the pro who lives there, which entrance to use and when work can be noisy. Ask for dust control around concrete cutting, and a tidy finish each day. Landlords sending turnover work can use our property manager page.
