Castlemore: large windows, tall entries and custom shower glass
A Castlemore house often has more glass to look after than most: a tall window over the foyer, a front door with sidelights and a transom, and several bathrooms, sometimes including one in a basement suite. One request can cover all of it. We're a free referral service. We pass the request to an independent local glass pro who handles that kind of work, and you deal with the pro directly for the measuring, the quote and the job.

Estate lots and newer subdivisions side by side
Castlemore mixes two kinds of street: estate homes on lots of up to a couple of acres, including the Vales of Humber estates, and smaller-lot subdivisions from 2001 and 2002, built in Brampton's busiest building years.
So houses a few streets apart can need very different help. An older estate home may be ready to price new windows; a 2000s house is more likely to need one fogged glass unit or a shower door that's dropped out of line.
Several jobs, one request. If the ensuite shower, a basement suite bathroom and the front-door glass all need work, list them together. A pro who does all three can measure in one visit.
Large picture windows and tall sealed units
When a big window fogs between the panes, the seal has failed. Usually the sealed unit can be remade to size and fitted into the existing frame, if the frame is sound. See foggy window repair.
Large, tall units cost more, and not only for the glass. A written, itemized quote should show:
- the glass: size, shape (arched tops need a template), coatings, and whether it's tempered;
- staging or a lift for a foyer window two storeys up, and how many people it takes to carry;
- removing and refitting trim, and what happens if the frame needs work;
- disposal, the timeline, and the pro's own warranty on the work.
When two quotes differ widely, it's usually in these lines.
Tall entries: sidelights, transoms and door glass
A cracked or fogged sidelight, or the glass in the door itself, can often be replaced without a new door. A transom is usually a separate unit and can be replaced on its own. See door glass replacement.
Ontario's building code calls for safety glass, tempered or laminated, in door-like sidelights over a set width, and in sliding doors, storm doors and shower enclosures. The pro orders the right type. If the door itself is warped, leaks at the sill or won't lock, price a new entry door alongside the glass.
Custom ensuites and frameless showers
Bathrooms here are often built to the owner's plan, so the glass is made to measure:
- Custom shower enclosures: frameless or semi-frameless tempered panels, cut to walls that are rarely square.
- Shower door adjustments: a door that drags or drips often needs hinges, seals or realignment, not new glass.
- Basement suite bathrooms: a lower ceiling or a tub-to-shower change needs its own measurements.
- Mirrors made to size: vanity mirrors, including lit ones.
Along the West Humber
The West Humber River runs through Castlemore. If your house backs onto the valley and the window you need help with is at the rear, say whether a truck can get close or whether the glass has to be carried round.
Castlemore sits on Brampton's eastern edge, next to Vaughan, but it is inside the City of Brampton, so the City's Building Division handles any permit here. To start, share photos of the window, entry or shower, with rough sizes.
Castlemore questions
Can very large sealed units be replaced without a new frame?
Usually, yes. A sealed unit is made to measure, so a big or arched one can be built to fit the existing frame, provided the frame is sound and square. What changes with size is the handling: weight, staging, and sometimes an extra person to lift. A pro will want a photo of the whole window and a close-up of a frame corner.
Is a transom window above a door replaceable on its own?
In most entries, yes. A transom is normally its own glass unit in its own frame, separate from the door and sidelights, so it can be replaced alone. An arched transom needs a template taken on site. If it's two storeys up, staging is part of the job and should appear on the quote as its own line.
Do you match pros for custom shower glass in Castlemore?
Yes. We connect you with independent glass pros who measure, supply and fit shower glass, including frameless panels in ensuites and enclosures in basement suite bathrooms. Send a photo of the space and rough sizes, and say whether the tile is finished. Our custom shower enclosures page explains the options.
What decides the price of custom shower glass in a Castlemore ensuite?
Mainly the glass and the layout. Thicker glass, taller panels, extra returns and coatings add to the cost, as do hinges and clamps in special finishes. Walls out of plumb take longer to template. Removing an old enclosure is another line. Ask for each to be itemized on the written quote.
Can one request cover shower glass, a vanity mirror and a front-door insert?
Yes. List each job on the request form with a photo of each. We'll look for a pro who takes on all of them, so one visit can cover the measuring. If no single pro does every item, we'll tell you which part needs a separate match rather than leaving it unanswered.
