Custom-cut mirrors for vanities, closet doors and basement gyms

A workout corner in a finished basement, a new bathroom in a second unit, a closet door with one cracked panel: each needs mirror cut to the space and fixed so it stays put. We connect you with a local glass professional who cuts, edges and hangs mirrors. They measure, quote and do the work. We pass your request on and follow up so it doesn't go quiet.

  • Cut to your wall, with the edge you choose
  • Gym walls, vanity mirrors and closet doors
  • Mounted to suit the wall behind it

Edge finishes

Edges explained: flat polish, bevel, pencil

A freshly cut edge is sharp. The finish makes it safe and sets the look, especially without a frame.

Flat polish

Ground square and polished. Plain and clean; the usual pick for gym walls and panels that meet at a seam.

Bevelled edge

A wide angled border that catches the light like a frame. Popular on frameless vanity mirrors, and it adds to the price.

Pencil edge

Rounded and soft, for a mirror people brush past.

Basement gyms

Home-gym and dance walls in finished basements

Under the City's basement finish package, a recreation room needs no window, and some finished rec rooms get little daylight. A mirror wall brightens a room like that, and it's how you check form on a lift or a dance step.

Big walls go up as several panels, not one sheet. Panels fit down the stairs, hang level on a wall that isn't flat, and one cracked panel can be replaced alone. Ask for safety backing on gym mirrors.

Separate panels with tight seams: the same approach works for a gym wall downstairs.

Bathrooms

Vanity mirrors for new bathrooms and second-unit suites

A basement that becomes a second unit usually gains a bathroom, and stock mirrors rarely suit a compact suite vanity. A custom mirror can match the vanity's width, notch around a light or fit under a low bulkhead. Shower glass too? See shower doors or custom enclosures.

For a busy upstairs bathroom, a wide mirror over a double vanity is common. Show outlets and switches in your photo so the mirror is cut around them.

What affects the quote

What a custom mirror quote depends on

Mirror is priced by the piece and the work done to it:

  • Size and thickness
  • Edge finish: polish, pencil or bevel
  • Shape, notches and holes for outlets or lights
  • Safety backing
  • Mounting method and the wall behind
  • Carrying large panels in, and removing an old mirror

Ask for a written, itemized quote: each panel's size and edge, the backing, the mounting, removal of the old mirror, and what happens if a panel arrives chipped.

Closet doors

Mirrored closet doors: replace the panel or the door

If the frame is straight and the track sound, a cracked mirror panel can often be replaced on its own. A door that jumps its track usually needs rollers or guides, not glass. A new door makes sense when the frame is bent or parts are no longer made. Send a photo of the door and the pro will say which. Other glass we match is on the services page.

Mounting

Mounting safely: clips, channels, adhesive, safety backing

Clips

Hold the edges; the mirror can come down later without damage.

Channel

A metal rail along the bottom carries the weight of a large mirror.

Mirror adhesive

Made for mirror backing. Ordinary construction adhesive can spoil the silvering.

Safety backing

A film that holds pieces together if the glass breaks. Worth it in gyms, kids' rooms and sliding doors.

LED mirrors

LED vanity mirrors: hardwiring needs an electrician

A plug-in LED mirror only needs a nearby outlet. One wired into the wall is electrical work, and the City's permit guidance notes that electrical work still needs an Electrical Safety Authority inspection. The glass pro hangs the mirror; an electrician makes the connection. For glass shelves in the same room, see custom glass.
