Patio doors and glass doors
Slider, front door, storm door or patio screen: each is its own job, and many are repairs rather than new doors. We're a free referral service, not a door company or a government program. We pass your request to an independent local pro who works on that kind of door, and they quote.

Backyard sliders
Patio sliders: repair first, replace when the frame is done
Slider won't lock or slide
Grinding, dragging, a latch that misses or a panel off its track usually comes down to rollers, a gritty track or a worn latch.
Slider foggy between the panes
Mist inside a slider's glass means the seal has failed, as in a window. Often only that panel's glass needs replacing.
Frame split or bent
A split sill, a bent frame or drafts from every edge is when a new patio door makes more sense than new parts.
The front entry
Entry doors, sidelights and door glass
Front door drafts and hardware
A draft at the threshold, a deadbolt that needs a shove or a door rubbing its frame is often weatherstripping or an adjustment.
Cracked insert or sidelight
The decorative glass in a front door, or the tall panel beside it, can usually be replaced on its own in safety glass.
A glass door broke tonight
Keep people back, put shoes on and take photos. A pro can often cover the opening now and fit proper glass later.
Storms and screens
Storm doors and patio screens
Storm doors
A closer that slams, a snapped wind chain, cracked glass or a screen insert that won't seat. Most of it is fixable.
Patio screen off its track
A quick fix on its own, usually worn screen rollers or a bowed frame. Torn or bagging mesh just needs a rescreen.
Window screens
Torn corners, bent frames and casement screens that fall into the room. A whole house's worth can be done in one visit.
Second units
A separate entrance for a second unit (permit pointers)
Below-grade entrance permits
A new stairwell entrance to the basement needs its own City permit. Replacing the door in an existing entrance is a smaller job.
Windows for a legal basement
Registering a second unit, or two-unit dwelling, raises window questions too. Our guide covers them in the City's own terms.
Owner-landlords
Living upstairs from a tenant? A walkout that won't latch, a torn screen and a worn lock are easy to book together.
Door glass rules
Safety glass in doors: what the code expects
Sliding patio doors
Glass in a sliding door has to be safety glass, tempered or laminated, so replacement panels are ordered that way.
Storm door panes
The same rule covers storm doors, which is why a broken pane is ordered to size rather than cut on the spot.
Wide sidelights
A sidelight wide enough to be mistaken for a doorway needs safety glass too. The installer checks and specifies it.
